Boydell & Brewer Group will from 1 July include James Currey Publishers,
the leading academic publisher on Africa, founded in 1984 by James
Currey. ‘Joining Boydell & Brewer will be a great opportunity for us,’
says its managing director Douglas H. Johnson. ‘As an independent
publisher, Boydell & Brewer has a strong reputation for developing and
managing specialist academic lists, and we look forward to adding James
Currey to this unique mosaic of imprints.’
In 2009 Boydell & Brewer will celebrate 40 years of independent
publishing. Peter Clifford, managing director of Boydell & Brewer Ltd,
comments: ‘The company is proud of its reputation for quality and
service in the academic community. Over the years we have built a family
of niche publishing lists in well-defined subject areas across the
humanities. Within these areas we offer authors and market a unique
breadth and depth of specialist expertise. Publishing in both the UK and
US, we are able to maximize our international sales and build a network
of authors worldwide. We are delighted to welcome James Currey to the
Boydell & Brewer group. Together with our University of Rochester Press
list in African Studies, it will put the group at the forefront of the
field, a status shared by Boydell & Brewer’s Tamesis list in Hispanic
Studies and Camden House in German.’
Orders for James Currey titles should continue to be sent to Marston
Book Services. The first titles to appear under the new arrangement will
be launched at the African Studies Association conference in Chicago and
published in November 2008. Full details of the James Currey list can be
found at www.jamescurrey.co.uk
and here at Boydell & Brewer.
